BASKETBALL LEICESTERS (II) – JuveCaserta
In this series we will try to shed some light on teams who are doing better than most expected, defying the odds and making the name for themselves early in the season.
Juvecaserta is off to good start in always dynamic and competitive Serie A. Team from Campania is currently 3rd in Pallicanestro with 5-2 score, behind only Reggio Emilia and undefeated italian powerhouse Emporio Armani from Milan. Keys of this early success are two new additions who managed to lift the team and raise its ceiling for this season, Edgar Sosa and Michael Watt. After Peyton Siva departure to Alba this summer, Juvecaserta brought Edgar Sosa, another ex-Louisville guard who was starting ahead of Siva in his senior year, who is currently among top 5 passers in Serie A. Daniele Cincarini is biggest benefactor of this move who is currently leading the league in 3 point percentage thanks to quality looks he is getting from his point guard. Addition from Pistoia, Polish forward Alex Czyz is also a major cog in coach Sandro Dell’Agnello machine. Teams top scorer and defensive anchor Michael Watt is coming from good season in ALBA Berlin but his defensive impact and offensive prowess helped Juvecaserta get noticed as up and coming team in Italy.Watt is among league top blockers and rebounders while scoring over 15 points per game.He poured 22 points followed with 4 blocks in latest close win over Cantu, while Sosa had his career high 14 assists in same game, helping JuveCaserta remain among top teams in the league.
JuveCaserta is off to impressive start for a team who usually mid-table team who failed to make the playoffs last couple of years. If they keep playing like this, playoffs might not be too far, considering that they are not involved in any euro competition beside domestic competitions, which might give them an edge over some teams late in the season.Juve might be one of the biggest surprises in Pallicanestro and might as well have one of the best seasons in recent history.
